CHOPPIN' BROCCOLI..............
After the Good Friday service at church this afternoon, I brought Dad over to have supper with us. At the same time, PJ and his family arrived from various parts of the country at various times today! PJ and Judy from Arkansas, Patrick & Jill with their children from Philadelphia, Megan flew in from Washington, DC and Maureen is arriving later tonight from Portland, OR.
Kathleen & Will came over and together, we chopped broccoli, radishes, olives, cucumbers, tomatoes, mushrooms, apples, melons, strawberries....everything we needed for Maureen's bridal shower tomorrow! We decided to order up some pizza and why not learn a new Ceili dance while we're at it!!!???

We attended the SIMPLE SOUP SUPPER at St. Clarence in preparation for the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday. It's a nice way to embrace such a somber feast. We gather as a church community to prepare for Easter together. The guys moan that there's no dessert and we watch for one of them to pull a box of girl scout cookies out from under the table......tsk, tsk! Tonight we had Italian Wedding Soup, Vegetable Soup and Chicken Noodle. Plenty for all.
Yesterday, we attended the "Simple Soup Supper" at Saint Clarence, commemorating the Lord's last supper. The celebration where the institution of the Eucharist was born. The Holy Thursday Mass is always a great service. The taking in of the three holy oils blessed by the bishop for use in anointing the sick and celebrating birth throughout the year. Father Neil was once again able to portray the meaning behind the ritual of the washing of the feet. He made a successful plea for the congregation to throw away their inhibitions and step up to have their feet washed. Many did this year. (Sometimes, I think that the people feel this action is reserved for chosen ones such as those going through the RCIA program throughout the year.) Then the stripping of the altar the extinguishing of the candles and the retreating from a darkened church in such quietness. It's just a great service.
Today is Good Friday and we acknowledge the solemnity of Christ's death, but we rejoice in the arrival of much family for the weekend. PJ & Judy are coming from Arkansas. Maureen arrives late tonight from Portland, Oregon. Megan is coming from Washington, DC. And, Patrick, Jill, Kenzie, Pat, Ally, Noah and Riley are driving in from Philadelphia.

Tomorrow we are throwing a shower for Maureen who is being married in Portland in June.....a wedding that I'm very much looking forward to!

So, amidst the somber and solemn moments......we celebrate and have fun!
