She's at it again!

What a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend.
I'm a lucky person being married to someone who loves me so very much!  Because, no matter what we're doing, just being with him is a good time every second!  But, I have to say that there were moments where we said to each other "it doesn't feel like Thanksgiving!"  and then there were moments when we said "now, if feels like Thanksgiving!"  It was our intention to have dinner with the Kemock's on Thursday, but a call from Nicole that they had the flu over there put the kabash on that.

I have to back up a few days.....On Sunday, when Lude said he wanted to take a turkey out of the freezer to cook on Thanksgiving, I was quietly opposed, but I know what it means to Lude to cook and have that "thanksgiving smell"!  So, go for it.  And, when we were at the grocery store and he put a TEN pound bag of potatoes in the cart, I asked him what the heck he thought he was going to do with TEN pounds of potatoes!

Fast forward to Thanksgiving Day.....We had a turkey in the oven and plenty of potatoes!  Chris and Thimi were not going to take Cameron over because of his already delicate health and the kids texted that they were sad they were not going to see us and could they stop before we went to Nicoles so they could see us!  When I called Thimi to find out what they were going to do today it all fell in place!  I had already prepared the green bean casserole to take to Nicole's and made a frozen pumpkin cream pie as well.  Thimi and Chris picked up a couple boxes of Stove Top and we were all set!
At church this morning, Father Neil blessed a big basket of bread and invited everyone in church to take a loaf.  We had this lovely loaf of bread to break together with family.

My, my, how things shake out!  We were saddened to not have our meal with Lude's brother Nick and his family, but it just wasn't to be.....and, we all made a pact to get our flu shots THIS WEEK!  (When we were at the doctor in September, the office didn't HAVE the shots, so we were supposed to come
back.....it's been pushed further down the list everyday!  NO MORE.)

Our Chicago girls did the turkey trot in Chicago on Thanksgiving and then went home to cook a tremendous meal for Louisa's family!  They're good people!

We shopped with great enthusiasm on Friday and got all but our online shopping which is set for Cyber Monday!  It was a lot of fun.  We ended our day at THE RAIL which has become a favorite of ours and it was crowded.  But, it's Black Friday and a nice place AT the mall, so it was bound to be busy.

On Saturday, we watched Ohio State beat the pants off Michigan.....well not really!  Michigan gave them a run for their money!  And, in the evening we picked up Nick and went to dinner at J-Bella in Strongsville.  We had an excellent dinner and spent the evening chatting about everything.  It's nice to catch up if even just for a few hours.

This year, I got us a new Advent Wreath - I've wanted this little wreath for a couple years, but never took the time to get it.  It's little - only about 8" across, but i got it because it fits perfectly on the little ledge between the kitchen and the dining area!  So, we will light it each Sunday and enjoy it as we
have our dinner and clean up.

We now belong to the Charity In Action ministry at church and this morning we helped with the giving tree project by taking the purchased items to the rectory
and sorting them into the different agency piles.  We enjoy the Christmas Projects at church and it feels good to give to those in need.

This evening, we again spent precious time with family as Owen, Kaetlyn and Jack came by to help Lude put the tree up....oh, and we fed them!  Trade off!  A wonderful time was had by all.

Now the house is fully decorated!
We will enjoy the next several weeks planning before we get to see the girls.
Happy Thanksgiving, one and all.

Praying for peace in Ferguson, Missouri tonight!

It's Thanksgiving week and I'm looking forward to all the festive activities!  We'll be at Nicole & Scott's again for dinner on Thursday and Lude's brother, Nick will be in town.  We'll get some alone time with Nick on Saturday when we go out for dinner together.  We're going to try, for the very first time, to do our Christmas shopping on Black Friday!  We've never done it before - we've only gone out for some special deal or something, but not for general shopping.  But, we're ready to get it done and we'll see how it goes.  And, we're going to meet up with friends along the way for a meal and have some fun.    Sunday, a couple nieces and nephews are coming to help Lude put the tree upright!   It's a huge endeavor and I'm grateful for their help.  They'll work for food, so that's a no brainer!!!!  I've been bringing the boxes of decorations up from the basement and today, I decorated a few things!  Why not?  I had the time and I hate to not be busy!  I got the little tree up which is nice because Lude and I will enjoy it upstairs this week until we actually light the big tree next week.  I stopped at the post office and got my holiday stamps which is always an odd thrill!
And now, I'll work on my overseas greetings!

Happy Thanksgiving to one and all!

Now that I have gotten the hang of a digital scrapbooking program, I've been doing more of that.  It took me a while to get it, but once I did, I discovered how much I enjoy it.  I loaded the program on my new laptop and I am able to take my scrapbooking with me wherever I go.  (I almost took it on my most recent vacation, but decided not to subject my husband to that!!!!)

After the first of the year, I began the arduous task of scanning my parent's old photographs and turning the photographic negatives into digital files.  I stopped and decided to do the project in retirement and picked it up in June.  Then, I decided that I'd hopefully be retired for a good long time, so I think this would be a perfect project for winter.  So, instead of being stuck in the basement scanning, I spent my summer months doing other more seasonal things.

In the meantime, I have been looking at the photographs and negatives that I already scanned and have scrapbooked a couple pages from those old days!  This is just one of the pages that I did because I had the files on my laptop already!  I am enjoying taking so many strolls down memory lane - hopefully you will too.

They spent almost 54 happy, loving years on earth and now enjoy an eternity of happiness together!
Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad!

Our first "winter" trip to visit the girls was met with some interesting weather.  We went to bed on Thursday night not knowing for sure IF we'd get to go at all.  Lude always says "the turnpike will be bone dry, guaranteed!"  When we woke, the snow had settled down and we decided to make a run for it and as Lude predicted, the turnpike was bone dry!  Just before Gary, Indiana, we ran into a little blustery snow system and when we passed two cars gone in the ditch, we decided, "now's the time to stop and eat our packed lunch".  It was smooth sailing after that.  But, again on Saturday night, the girls looked out and saw that there was snow coming down and we figured, "here we go again!"  But Sunday was just fine.  I have to say that this has been the quietest visit to Chicago I've ever had!  We didn't do much of anything at all.   Let's hope we are as lucky with the weather come December 22nd!  I don't imagine I will drive again to Chicago now until March.  But I could take the bus........hmmmmm!

Here's a few pages from that trip...you can click on the page image to make it a little larger if you're interested in the journaling.
